Which Electrical Brands Own Each Other?
Six companies own most of the brand names you will find stamped on North American electrical equipment. Eaton owns Cutler-Hammer, Bussmann, Crouse-Hinds and Klockner-Moeller, and produces the successor lines for Westinghouse. Schneider Electric owns Square D and acquired Merlin Gerin in 1992. Siemens carries the ITE and Murray heritage lines in North American distribution equipment. ABB acquired GE Industrial Solutions outright in June 2018 and holds a long-term right to keep using the GE brand on that equipment. Rockwell Automation owns Allen-Bradley. Mersen is the current name of the company formerly called Ferraz Shawmut.

A Note on Federal Pacific, Zinsco and Challenger
Federal Pacific Electric Corporation, the company that made Stab-Lok panels and breakers, went out of the circuit breaker business in 1986 and has no corporate successor. Its Stab-Lok products carry well-documented safety concerns. The name Federal Pacific is used today by a separate, currently operating transformer and switchgear manufacturer owned by Electro-Mechanical LLC, which is not connected to the Stab-Lok safety history.
Zinsco was sold to GTE-Sylvania in 1973, and the line was rebranded Challenger in 1978, which is why some Challenger panels use the same bus bar and breaker design as Zinsco. Zinsco-branded breaker production ended in 2005. Both Zinsco and early Challenger panels have documented bus connection and overheating concerns.
Have a licensed electrician evaluate any Federal Pacific Stab-Lok, Zinsco, or early Challenger panel still in service before continuing to use it. For Westinghouse, ITE, Murray, Challenger, and Zinsco equipment, we stock compatible current production replacements where they exist.
